CCCFV members and guests gather for lunch on the first Wednesday of each month, except July. Our Junior League volunteers organize and facilitate the meeting, with guests invited by the CCCFV Advisory Board. Here are the programs we enjoyed this past year:

August 2017: Linda Yarbrough talked about the North Texas LINK Coalition whose mission is to facilitate the North Texas area’s recognition and understanding of the dynamic connection between animal abuse and the cycle of family and societal violence.

September 2017: State Representative Jeff Leach will talk about the latest legislative activity surrounding family violence.

October 2017: Marisa Miller, Project Safe Childhood Coordinator for the Eastern District of Texas, U.S. Department of Justice. Marissa is responsible for the coordination of all of the districts prosecution of crimes against children and human trafficking.

November 2017: Judge Emily Miskel of the 470th district court of Collin County. She gave an in-depth presentation on restraining orders.

December 2017: Rev. Chris Carathers, Interim Senior Minister, First Christian Church Plano. Rev. Carathers presented on Stress Management for Professionals Serving Those Involved in Family Violence.

January 2018: Nikki Brown presented: “A Survivor’s Experience with Professionals Addressing Family Violence: What Helped, What Hurt, What Was Needed.”

February 2018: Alexandra Cantrell, Policy Coordinator of the Texas Council on Family Violence.

March 2018: We learned more about two of our member agencies and had committee time.

April 2018: Crystal Levonius from the Collin County Criminal District Attorney’s Office presented a case study – State of Texas vs. Michelle Smith

May 2018: Bill Bernstein, Deputy Directory of MOSAIC Family Services, presented on human trafficking.

June 2018: Agency Fair an information on upcoming Nonprofit Excellence Workshops
