The Texas Council on Family Violence is hosting the North Texas regional membership meeting and training on May 15, 2017. Similar to last year, we will conduct the workshop at the Meadows Foundation Conference Center. We hope you are able to attend this interactive workshop. Will you take a moment to register online by clicking here? The regional membership meeting is made possible through the OVW Grant and is offered free of charge to attendees. Below is more information about the workshop training topics:

Creating Safer Spaces: Using Motivational Interviewing to Enhance Advocacy
Motivational Interviewing (MI), an empathic approach to conversations around change, supports survivors to make individual choices about their families and goals by focusing on self-efficacy and internal motivators while maintaining an environment of understanding focused on goals of the survivor’s choosing. This training session will offer an overview of MI as well as hands-on experience employing this advocacy tool. With recent shifts in federal regulations to require voluntary services, MI can also be a great tool to assist in meeting these new requirements and creating positive discussions about available services!

Moving the Wheel: Enhancing Services and Access to LGBQ/T Communities
From intake to survivor complaints this workshop will allow you to keep Moving the Wheel towards enhanced access for LGBQ/T survivors. This session will offer advocacy tools to help you and your agency continue the work towards supporting LGBQ/T survivors in a meaningful and effective manner through interactive activities, lively group discussion, and role-playing. Additionally, the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA) requires yearly training on this topic so this is a great way to meet that requirement while making positive change towards enhanced access in your community!
